Fashion Magazines

Today’s fashion magazines have grown to be utterly sophisticated reflecting society’s increasing attention towards looks, trends and styles. Fashionistas all over the world are provided with a high variety of specialized magazines that can focus on a certain type of audience- ranging from age, occasion, and cultural influence to occupational and social status.

The superiority or quality of one or the other is strictly subjective. There are famous fashion magazines available for any interests: make-up, clothes, shoes, bags, accessories and so on. These fashion orientated publications are not only glamorous but also informative by regularly covering fashion shows, reporting the latest, most appreciated trends, fabrics, colors or beauty techniques.

A successful method to attract and entice the public that fashion magazines employ is associating with certain celebrities. Public figures accept to lend their names to fashion designers and pose on the covers of famous publications. Usually a celebrity’s style is similar to that certain magazine’s fashion picks or approaches to fashion as an industry.

Fashion magazines are not as superficial as some may consider them. More often than not such publications have reflected political or social issues that influence fashion, making a trend a statement for liberties, rights and emancipation and not only a simple desire to look good. The simplest example is the 1960’s period when fashion became a protest against conformity, violence and social restrictions. Fashion magazines from that time put across the point the hippie movement was trying to make: violence is wrong, while freedom and love for one another can bring peaceful coexistence.

Fashion Magazines

Fashion magazines are so popular because they put together trends from every corner of the world, thus appealing to a large audience. Some are thought to set standards. The most influential are Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, W Magazine, Vanity Fair and Harper’s Bazaar.

Vogue has been around for almost a century, being most appreciated. It has become to function as a term of comparison for the other fashion magazines. It specializes on haute-couture and its spread can reach 700 pages, offering articles on the greatest designers (Chanel, Prada) and the most successful models and celebrities. Elle, on the other hand, focuses on more accessible designer lines. It includes articles on beauty, accessories and celebrity pointers. W Magazine emphasizes in its sections on celebrity personal trends and styles and it is preferred by those who want to adopt a celebrity fashion choice.
